Apartamento Magazine.

As well as Oh Comley, Apartamento magazine has been really great for layout research and page ideas...I love the way that the images overlay eachother and the text is bordered off by big wite squares. I think that this really busy style of layout combined with the more minimal techniques of oh comley could together create a really unique style. I love all of the different subjects that this magazine talks about and in the one that i bought recently, there was a small section just for children to join in and interact with images and ideas. I really like the idea of inspiring this kind of creativity by introducing ideas and a space to draw or write. Here are some examples of the pages which i find really beautiful and interesting:

Process; A Tomato Project

This book uses some really amazing layout techniques and also has all different types of paper running through it. I really like the idea of having white matte paper combined with tracing paper and brown paper as i think that it gives a really organic and interesting texture to the book. The photography is balanced beautifully with the text and the amount of negative space.
I just picked up this book in the library and was like...wow. I know i sound like a geek again but layouts and typography are pretty exciting and i know other people agree, i am not the only one!

Books, Books, Books.....

Although i have spent about one million pounds over the last few weeks on printing and photocopying, i don't seem to be able to stop buying books, it started as i began looking for inspiration on layouts and typography etc and i just can't seem to stop. It's all different types of books, coffee table books to be precise. Shame i don't have a coffee table.

The first one which i got was a while ago and it seems to have gotten a lot of hype recently. It really inspired my Uni project early on with ideas for interiors and also going back to the whole layout thing...I got it from London and read it all the way back to Birmingham on the bus, even though it did make me feel a bit travel sick.

Here are some images from the inside of the book.....it's called 'The Selby is in your place'

by Todd Selby.

Its amazing for layout ideas and also the handwriting in it is really nice and personal, he has written questionnaires for each person that he visited in the book. Each person is from a completely different background so the book is really diverse and interesting. He has also added small illustrations which add charm and character to this already uniquely beautiful book.
